  • CITY-WIDE ELECTED MAYOR

    Seat Open/Term: On November 3, 1998, Pasadena voters approved a Charter amendment to provide for a city-wide elected Mayor to serve a four-year term. The first Mayoral election was held in March 1999, with subsequent elections every four years thereafter. The current term will expire in May 2015, and this seat will be open for election in the upcoming March 10, 2015 primary municipal election. Pursuant to City Charter Section 406, the Mayor is a voting member of the City Council, presides at the City Council meetings, acts as the chief executive of the City in performing all acts required to be performed under State law and the City Charter, and is recognized as the official head of the City for all ceremonial purposes and for other purposes set forth in the Charter. There are no term limit provisions for serving as the elected Mayor.

    Nomination Period: The nomination period will begin on Monday, November 17, 2014, at 7:30 a.m., and will close on Friday, December 12, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. The City Clerk will conduct two identical Candidate Workshops for candidates and/or their representatives on Monday, November 17, 2014, 8:00 a.m., and Wednesday, November 19, 2014, 5:30 p.m., City Hall, 100 North Garfield Avenue, Room S228. Filing papers will be issued at the beginning of the sessions and detailed candidate information will be provided. All candidates and/or their representatives are encouraged to attend one of these workshops. Each session will last approximately one hour, and there will be an opportunity for questions. Nomination papers will also be issued during normal office hours (7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.) at the City Clerk’s Office, City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Avenue, Room S228, Pasadena (appointments encouraged, 626-744-4124). City Hall is closed November 27 and 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The City Clerk’s Office will be open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the December 12 deadline to file nomination papers. 

    Extended Nomination Period: If the incumbent officer does not file nomination papers by the December 12, 2014 deadline, the period to nominate any qualified person other than the incumbent is extended to Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. for that incumbent’s office.

    Nomination Petition/Qualifications/Filing Fee/Optional Candidate's Statement  

    • Nomination petition must be issued and filed within the above nomination period.
    • Nomination petition must be signed by not less than 50 qualified voters residing within the City of Pasadena. 
    • A candidate must be a registered voter and reside within the City of Pasadena.
    • There is a $25.00 filing fee at the time nomination papers are filed
    • There will be a $1,800 deposit if a Mayoral candidate wishes to have a statement printed in the sample ballot pamphlet (optional). Actual charges will be determined upon publication and either a refund or an invoice for the difference will be sent to the candidate after the election.
