PASADENA POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE
PASADENA FIRST RESPONDERS CONDUCT TRAINING EXERCISES AT PUSD's WASHINGTON MIDDLE SCHOOL AUGUST 5-9, 2013
PASADENA, Calif – During the week of August 5-9, 2013, Pasadena first responders, in conjunction with the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD), will conduct training exercises at Washington Middle School in Pasadena. Officers and fire fighters will work through mock scenarios that simulate the realistic problems associated with emergency response and the management of high risk and continuously evolving situations.
The training will occur each day between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. School offices will be open for business staring August 7, but classes will not be in session and children will not be present during the drills. The public should not be alarmed if they see an increased police presence at the school during those hours.
“The Pasadena Police and Fire Departments and Pasadena Unified School District are committed to maintaining community safety, especially in our schools. Training scenarios like this are essential for preparedness,” stated Police Chief Phillip Sanchez.
“PUSD is appreciative that the Pasadena Police and Fire Departments recognizes an emergency at a school site presents a unique set of challenges,” said PUSD Superintendent Jon R. Gundry. “These exercises are an example of the premium we all put on the safety and security of our staff and students.”
