FIESTAS PATRIAS TO CELEBRATE RICH CULTURAL HISTORY SEPT. 14, 2013 AT VILLA-PARKE
PASADENA, Calif.—On Saturday, September 14, 2013, you as you are invited to this year’s Fiestas Patrias celebration from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the Villa-Parke Community Center’s multipurpose field at 363 East Villa Street.
Sponsored by the City of Pasadena Human Services and Recreation Department and hosted by Villa-Parke Community Center, this family friendly event will feature a parade of flags, live music, dance performances, Charros on horseback, children’s art activities, boxing and ju jitsu demonstrations. City officials will be present to welcome participants and crown the new Queen of the event.
The program recognizes 18 countries celebrating their independence from Spain such as Belize, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico and Nicaragua. The festival has become a neighborhood tradition recognizing a variety of Latin American cultures.
At 11a.m., Aztec Dance Yankuititl will take the stage, to open the festivities, followed by performances from Bolivia International, Ballet de las Americas, Grupo Folklorico El Torogoz, Ignacio Hernandez y su Mariachi, Ballet Folklorico Nahuatzen, Tierra Blanca Dance Company and Melba E Cubas representing traditional dances and costumes from Bolivia, Cuba, El Salvador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Venezuela.
Youth soccer teams from the Villa-Parke Recreational Youth Soccer League will compete, in a tournament, between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Villa-Parke soccer field.
Exhibitors from City departments and local outreach organizations will provide giveaways and information on services offered to the community. Admission is free; and vendors will be selling food.
