Each month, cities across the United States report crime statistics to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Crimes are separated by category; Part I, Part II, and Part III. Part I crimes are comprised of serious felonies and Part II crimes are non serious felonies and misdemeanors. Part III incidents are comprised of calls for service which are non-criminal in nature and require documentation. Together these three classifications make up the crimes reported in the Uniform Crime Reports (UCR). These are the crime statistics that are cited when it is reported and a city has a rise or fall in crime statistics (US Legal Definitions).
