    Benefits of Mulch

There are many benefits to having mulch in your landscape, including:

    • Mulch moderates the soil temperature and retains moisture during dry weather, reducing the need for watering.
    • Prevents germination of many weed seeds & reduces need for herbicides.
    • Protects the soil from the impact of raindrops that can cause crusting and prevents the germination of seedlings.
    • Mulch replenishes nutrients in the soil.

    Mulch Recycling Program

    • Wood from City trees that have been removed is chipped into mulch and recycled.
    • The City uses mulch at City parks and landscaped areas and offers mulch to residents through the mulch giveaway program.
    • This program provides free mulch for pickup at Robinson and Victory Parks on selected dates between February and November.
    • Mulch is delivered on the selected dates at 7:30 am, and is available until supplies last.
