Pasadena Public Library offers computers at all ten locations with access to the Internet and other electronic resources. The following overview describes the resources and how best to use them. The resources are available free of charge except where noted. For additional information call 744-4066.
Internet Use Policies - The Library does not monitor and has no control over the information available on the Internet and cannot be held responsible for the content, accuracy, or quality of the information retrieved or images viewed. The Library does not limit access to sites on the Internet or censor information that some may find offensive.
Library Catalog - Access information about the library’s collection; manage your account, place items on reserve, and more. The catalog is available from any computer.
Subject Guides - Subject Guides assist with locating books, suggested websites, blogs, news feeds, magazine articles, and other electronic resources on a single topic.
Research Databases - State-of-the-art business, career, genealogy, legal, historical, and educational databases allow you to access articles and other information from any computer. Many of the databases are also available remotely with a valid Pasadena/Glendale library card.
Internet Reservations - You must have a valid Pasadena or Glendale Public Library Card to reserve an internet session (apply for a library card). You may begin your Internet session (up to one hour per user per day) at any available Internet workstation, or reserve a session up to seven days in advance at one of the self-serve PC reservation stations, or online. For same day reservations reserve by telephone (626) 744-4066, option 2, or call a branch library directly. Internet stations shut off 15 minutes prior to closing. Internet Express Stations - Eight 15-minute express terminals offering up to two 15-minute sessions per user per day are available in the Reference and Humanities Wings at Central Library on a first-come first-served basis with your Pasadena/Glendale card. If you do not have a library card see staff at the Customer Service desk. Branch libraries offer one 30-minute express session per user per day as available.
Computers for Kids - Computers for children are available in the Children's Room of the Central Library and at the branches. These computers are equipped with educational software, the Kids’ Catalog for searching library materials, and limited Internet access to sites linked from the library’s homepage (also see the Internet Policy for Kids). Computers in the Children's Room shut off five minutes prior to closing.
Pay-for-use computers - Two computers are available in the Copy Center of the Central Library on a first-come, first-served basis at a cost of $4.00 per hour, payable only using a Cash-card. The pay-for-use computers shut off five minutes prior to closing.
Word processing - Word processing is available on all Internet computers, the eight Electronic Resource workstations located in the Reference Wings at Central Library and in the computer labs.
Printing Documents - Print fees are 10 cents per page and may be paid for by cash or Cash-card at Central Library, and by Cash-card at branch locations. Cash-cards are available in the Copy Center at the Central Library and at the Customer Service desk at all branch libraries. All print requests are held in the printer queue for 24 hours. Print stations are available up to 5 to 15 minutes before closing, depending on location. Check with staff for details, or view step-by-step instructions for printing at Central Library.
Visual Enhancement Workstation - Computer workstations with visual enhancement software are available at the Central Library and La Pintoresca Branch. For further information, call (626)744-4066, and select option 7 for Reference at Central Library or option 1 for La Pintoresca Branch.
Wireless Access - Wireless Internet access is available at all locations and permits customers with properly equipped laptop computers and other portable computing devices to access the web.
Technology Learning Centers:
Central Library – This lab is open to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis during the hours of Monday – Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. and 6:30 – 8:45 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 5:45 p.m. and offers limited Internet access to sites linked from the library’s homepage as well as word processing. Special lab hours offering full internet access are reserved for children and teens to learn new skills and spend time researching Monday – Thursday 3:30– 6:30 p.m. and Sunday 1:00– 5:00 p.m. Children and teens may sign up for up to two 30-minute slots per day. The lab is also the site of many of the Library's free public computer training classes. The lab is closed for general use during classes.
La Pintoresca Branch – This lab is reserved for career, job, and grant funding research (FC Search) Wednesdays and Thursdays 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and for career, job and Career Friday events on Friday 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Special lab hours offering full internet access are reserved for children only Monday – Thursday 3:00– 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 2:00– 6:00 p.m. Children may sign up for one 30-minute slot per day with time extended based on availability. Smart Lab homework help is available Monday – Thursday 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. (children working on homework are given priority)
Villa Parke - This lab is open to the general public on a first-come first-served basis Monday – Friday 3:00– 6:00 p.m. Computers provide access to the Internet and word processing.
