    Police Officer Application Process

The application process for Police Officer is rigorous and demanding. Those applying for this position are expected to display the highest standards in every area of their life. Read on and see if you have what it takes….

The Police Officer application process begins when you complete and submit a job application with the City of Pasadena Human Resources Department. Once the application is received, you will be notified of the next available testing date.

    Testing Day

The testing procedure consists of a written test which is scheduled and administered by Human Resources – City Hall. Notification will be sent out via mail or e-mail concerning the results of your test. The next phase of testing is the physical agility test. If you pass this test you will be invited into a class room where background packets will be passed out and a 30 minute essay will be administered. It is recommended that you wear appropriate attire (such as running shoes, running shorts, T-shirts, sweats, etc.) on this day. Unless otherwise noted, the testing will take place at the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department STAR Center, in Whittier California.

    Written Test

The written exam contains multiple choice questions and is approximately a 1-hour test. At the written test, you must show picture identification such as your driver's license. Those who do not qualify on the written test will not be eligible to continue in the selection process.

    Physical Agility Test

The physical agility test consists of the following: a 500 yard run, 6’ chain link fence, 99 yard obstacle course, 6’ solid wall and a body drag (165 lbs.). Each of the events are timed and the participants are given a score based on how quickly each task is completed. Participants must do each event and failure to complete a task will result in disqualification. The scores for each event will be totaled and a minimum score must be obtained in order to continue in the selection process.

    Personal History Statement

Upon successful completion of the written and physical agility tests, you will be given a Personal History Statement packet. The Personal History Statement Review process is conducted by the Police Department. Be advised that by receiving and completing this packet you are not automatically put in the background process. It merely allows the Police Department to determine your suitability towards moving forward with a background investigation.

Failure to return the completed paperwork by the date requested will cause your name to be removed from the eligibility list. Once your Personal History Review packet is received, you may be notified that you have been disqualified from the process or you will be contacted by a background investigator. If you have been disqualified you may re-apply in one year or if you failed any of the tests or you were not processed during your time on the eligibility list, you may re-apply for this position after one year from the date you had originally taken the written test.
